In 1989, H. H. the 12 Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa undertook a special initiative: Pilgrimage for Active Peace. Starting in Bodhgaya, India, the Pilgrimage visited several countries around the world including Vatican City State, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States of America before returning to New Delhi, India.

The Pilgrimage for Active Peace initiative was concluded at the great Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Thousands of people participated, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, His Holiness Pope John Paul II and His Holiness Shankaracharya, as well as heads of other religions and a number of Nobel Laureates.
