World Peace Through Non Violence

September 30, 2018. At "World Peace Through Non-Violence" Conference in Mumbai

Abstract

In his speech addressing the topic “World Peace by Non Violence,” H.H. the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa stated that peace is harmony and education is the key to turn things into harmony. If people are not educated, then what is convenience in this electronic age can become the source of inconvenience. He remarked that so much has developed technologically but we are not able to master it. Therefore, our own creation is ruling us and ruining our life.

His Holiness quoted Mahatma Gandhi that anger is the enemy of non violence. And pride is a monster that swallows it up. Thus we have to conquer our pride and ego to overcome our anger.

He further explained that ego has two forms – subjective ego (oriental disease) and objective ego (occidental disease). When these two diseases are diagnosed and remedied by each other, we can overcome the basic problem of ego and have balance and middle way.

His Holiness led the entire audience to repeat after Mahatma Gandhi’s words as a pledge on the occasion of celebrating his 150th birth anniversary – Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony. Upon the crowd recitation, he encouraged the audience to practice what they preach.

His Holiness emphasized that all the religions are by the humanity, of the humanity, for the humanity. He quoted His Holiness Dalai Lama that religion should be only for the benefits of others including ourselves.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony

It should make ourselves a better person. It should make others a better person. It should take care of all the living beings on this earth, including the environment. If it doesn’t do that, then it is irrelevant.

Because the conference took place at Bombay Stock Exchange Auditorium, His Holiness commented that Finance is the creation of human beings across 600, 000 years from cavemen time to modern time. Therefore it is our duty to turn this into positive energy rather than negative energy.

At the end of his speech, he pointed out that we all should recognize that we all are brothers and sisters of the humankind and all the other living creatures are also part and parcel of us. He encouraged the audience to truly be non violence in all aspects which include our words, our thoughts and our actions that all should be nonviolence as possible.
